Since 1993 and on invitation from different art institutions, the artist group WochenKlausur develops concrete proposals aimed at small, but nevertheless effective improvements to socio-political deficiencies. Proceeding even further and invariably translating these proposals into action, artistic creativity is no longer seen as a formal act but as an intervention into society.
The first WochenKlausur project succeeded in making medical care available to homeless people in Vienna (Austria). An invitation from Shedhalle Zurich (Switzerland) followed where the group developed a pension for drug-addicted women.
In 2012 WochenKlausur activated a structure in Holon (Israel) to provide small home improvements, at no cost, to residents in need. In Kassel (Germany) the group worked out a solution that allows peaceful co-existence on a city square used by various groups such as cultural initiatives, residents, the church and drug users. In New York City (USA) a series of presentations from organizations, associations, interest groups and activists dealing with issues of housing and urban built environment could be organized.
All in all over 35 interventions have been conducted by alternating teams internationally.
